Google’s $1.5bn backlink search engine could help you get more free traffic

Google’s backlink platform could help companies sell more of their content online.
A study by research firm Upstream found that by using Google’s BacklinkScore, companies could increase their revenue by up to 50 per cent, or $1,5bn a year, if they used their existing website links.
Upstream’s report, which surveyed 10,000 businesses, found that links on websites like LinkedIn and Yahoo are often linked to the company, which could potentially boost their search traffic and make them more likely to get paid for links on their sites.
“Link equity is a key determinant of whether businesses earn an organic link or not,” Upstream CEO Andrew Taggart said.
“A good link equity system can reduce the likelihood of a link being missed by companies, so businesses should use it to their advantage.”
While Backlinkscore was launched as a free tool to help businesses get their content linked, it now comes with a number of perks.
For example, Upstream says the tool gives businesses a better understanding of the types of links they’re linking to and what they’re buying, so they can be more effective at getting paid for those links.
Companies can also add their own customisable keywords to link profiles and earn money on each new link they click.
“The platform provides a powerful tool for businesses to make more targeted marketing to a wider audience, so you can make more informed choices about which links you link to and how much money you’re going to earn,” Uptern CEO Taggert said.
